About the position

As a licensed veterinarian at UDS, you will work in a varied clinical environment within a 24-hour operation at Sweden’s only university animal hospital.

As SLU is the only higher education institution in Sweden providing education for veterinary and veterinary nursing professionals, you will have an active role in educating future veterinarians and veterinary nurses in the clinical setting.

The position includes evening, night and weekend shifts, as our operations run around the clock.

You will be supported by our specialists and experienced colleagues within the team, enabling you to thrive in the clinical environment and develop in your professional role.

Your profile

You are a licensed veterinarian with the right to practise veterinary medicine in Sweden. You have several years of clinical experience and are a confident emergency veterinarian, accustomed to making medical assessments and performing emergency surgery. A Step 1 qualification in diseases of dogs and cats, or equivalent, is an advantage.

As the position involves extensive contact with animal owners and students, you need to have good command of Swedish, both spoken and written. Alternatively, you should have a good command of English and be motivated to learn Swedish.

You are a good communicator with the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with both clients and colleagues.

You are interested in teaching and contributing to creating good conditions for research. As a veterinarian at the University Animal Hospital, you have a scientific approach and an interest in evidence-based veterinary care. You understand that an event-driven emergency service with irregular working hours is something you are able to manage.

About us

The Department of Clinical Sciences is responsible for undergraduate education, research and postgraduate education in anaesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, veterinary nursing, epidemiology, laboratory animal science, surgery, clinical chemistry, medicine and reproduction. Our activities within all these fields encompass all animal species.

At the SLU University Animal Hospital (UDS), education, research and advanced veterinary care go hand in hand. We educate tomorrow’s veterinarians and veterinary nurses and provide first-class care for companion animals, competition animals and production animals. We also share knowledge with the general public. By combining established knowledge with the latest research findings, we are developing the veterinary care of the future.

Under one roof, we provide veterinary care for horses, dogs, cats and other small animals. In addition to modern, purpose-built facilities, we have access to advanced diagnostic imaging and a specialist veterinary laboratory.
